ARTIFICIAL GRASS, RUBBER MULCH, & PLAY EQUIPMENT – AUGHTON JUNIOR ACADEMY, ROTHERHAM

We recently completed a full playground equipment installation at Aughton Junior Academy in Sheffield, transforming the outdoor space into a safe, fun, and multi-purpose play area for pupils.

Our team began by installing a wooden trim trail, giving children the perfect opportunity to develop balance, coordination, and confidence through active play. To ensure safety, we then added blue wetpour safety surfacing beneath the equipment. Wetpour is available in a wide range of colours, making it a versatile choice for schools looking to add both safety and vibrancy to their playgrounds.

Around the wetpour area, we installed a long-lasting road track playground marking, creating a fun and multi-purpose space where children can enjoy imaginative play as well as physical activity.

For the main section of the playground, we installed artificial grass, providing a clean, low-maintenance surface that stays green and usable all year round. We also created a small sectioned-off area with upright logs, designed so a shade sail can be added in the future to create a comfortable, shaded play space.

To one side of the playground, we fitted red rubber mulch surfacing, an attractive and impact-absorbing option that blends naturally with timber features. Within this area we also installed a sandpit with a protective lid and a wooden decking stage, offering children a variety of play and learning opportunities.

This project at Aughton Junior Academy is a great example of how multiple elements — from safety surfacing and playground markings to artificial grass and timber features — can come together to create a truly engaging, safe, and long-lasting playground environment.
